Female Falconers of the Future… Leadership Expanding the Horizons of Heritage
The graduation of the first cohort of female falconers from the Mohamed Bin Zayed Falconry and Desert Physiognomy School in 2018 marked a pioneering milestone in the School’s journey and its efforts to broaden the practice and understanding of this human heritage. The inaugural cohort comprised girls of diverse nationalities, aged between seven and thirteen, who received theoretical and practical training that enabled them to master the principles, ethics, rules, and authentic practices of Arabian falconry.
The trainees expressed their pride in the knowledge and skills they acquired within a short period, during which they became proficient in handling falcons and using their equipment. They praised the supportive educational environment provided by the School, which contributed to the success of their experience, and emphasised the importance of providing more girls and women with opportunities to learn falconry and practise this authentic cultural heritage.
This achievement embodied the vision of the School and the Emirates Falconers’ Club to instil the proper principles of Arabian falconry among younger generations, strengthen women’s participation in the field, and reinforce the UAE’s message of openness and cultural coexistence.
